Updating the MATLAB Configuration File for PSCAD - For PSCAD Versions 4.6 and 5.0
For PSCAD v5.0.2 and older, the configuration file matlab_versions.xml is installed alongside PSCAD, and is used by PSCAD to detect and use the installed versions of MATLAB. As newer versions of MATLAB are regularly released, the matlab_versions.xml file becomes outdated, and cannot detect these newer releases.
This article contains both automatic and manual instructions for updating this file.
1. Automatic Update to the Matlab Configuration File
- Download and run the latest version of the Fortran Medic utility as per Steps (a) to (d) of this article.
Note: At Step (c), ensure to select "Yes" to be able to make changes using the Utility. - When the Utility has finished gathering information about your system, scroll down to the PSCAD installation, right-click on the Matlab conflict (see example below), and select the option to update the file:

- The Utility will update the file to the most recent version.
2. Manual Update to the Matlab Configuration File
- Obtain the matlab_versions.xml configuration file in either of the following manners:
- Request the most recent version of the file from our support desk (support@mhi.ca), or

Note - This might not be the most recent version.
- Request the most recent version of the file from our support desk (support@mhi.ca), or
- Use the new file to replace your current matlab_versions.xml file. The location should be similar to the following:
If using PSCAD X4: C:\Program Files (x86)\PSCAD46
If using PSCAD V5: C:\Program Files (x86)\PSCAD50
