How to Determine your License Type (Certificate or Lock-based) - PSCAD

When you are ready to set up your PSCAD software, your PSCAD download package might
include setup instructions for both certificate and lock-based licensing.

If you are unsure what type of licensing you have, here are some tips to help determine this, so that you can use the right set of instructions:

  • Lock-based Licensing:

    - Applicable only for PSCAD (not for any other MHI products)

    - Licensing is hosted by the customer, either directly on the PSCAD machine, or on a server to be shared with client machines over the customer's Network.

    - Licensing is authorized using a physical USB lock that gets plugged in on a USB port, and an installed license file.

    - Further information on this licensing type is availabe in this article.

  • Certificate Licensing:

    - Applicable for all MHI Released Products (PSCAD, Initializer, Enerplot, PRSIM, FACE).

    - Licensing is hosted on MHI servers, and shared with client machines over the Internet.

    - Licensing is authorized when a customer checks out a license certificate from our server.

    - User requires a MyCentre user account to be able to use the certificate licensing.

-- Further information on this licensing type is availabe in this article.
