1. Description - License Manager

The License Manager is a custom License Manager Service developed by the PSCAD Development Team, to manage a “Multi-User License” (MUL).

The license manager is installed on the machine that is hosting the license, which may either be a license server or client machine.

Note

For a "Single-User License" (SUL), licensing is not managed using the License Manager. Instead, licensing is managed through the PSCAD self-licensing feature. Therefore the License Manager should never be installed on a computer using an SUL, unless PSCAD v4.2.1 is being used (see “When to use a License Manager”, below).

When to use a License Manager

The License Manager is required for a lock-based license, and when one or more conditions apply:

  • Your license is a Multi-User License, and has more than one PSCAD seat. The License Manager will allow you to run multiple instances of PSCAD; or
  • Your license is a Multi-User License, and will be shared with other client computers over the network. The License Manager will manage the sharing and networking; or
  • On the machine that is hosting either a Multi-User License or a Single-User License, you are running PSCAD v4.2.1. The License Manager is now required to be installed and running for this version.
