About the License Update Utility
Description
The License Update utility (LicenseUpdate.exe) was developed in C#, and compiled and released by MHI. The License Update Utility is used to install a lock-based license:
- With PSCAD if using PSCAD self-licensing mode, or
- With the License Manager if you will be using the License Manager to manage your license
(The License Manager is used if your license contains more than one seat and/or if licensing will be shared over the Network with client machines)
Basically, if you are using lock-based licensing to run PSCAD, this utility will be required when setting up the license.
Why the License Update Utility is Sometimes Flagged by a Customer's Protection Software
Because this utility deals with licensing, it is also obfuscated, and this may therefore become flagged by VirusTotal.
Additionally, it could be deliberately manipulated so as to be falsely flagged by VirusTotal, to sabotage our reputation.
The reporting that is Performed by the License Update Utility
This utility does not send any information to MHI at all.
The utility does have the capability to save messages as a log file, following an attempt to use it to install a license. This log file can be sent to the MHI support desk if a user has any license installation issues.
How to Obtain a Valid Version of the License Update Utility
The License Update Utility is installed alongside PSCAD and the License Manager, or it can be downloaded from MyCentre or from here.
Please do not download this utility from anywhere else, as it could be tampered with by a third party.
