CSMF Overview

Electric network analysis without controls systems would be very restrictive and unrealistic.  In PSCAD, systems may consist of both electrical and control type components, which may be interconnected to allow for an all inclusive simulation study.  For example, power electronic controllers, networks with saturating transformers, and protection systems require both an advanced electric network and controls capabilities.

The CSMF (Control Systems Modeling Functions) section of the PSCAD Master Library provides a complete set of basic linear and non-linear controls components.  These components can be combined together into larger, more elaborate systems (virtually any type of control system can be constructed, no matter how complicated).

Outputs from controls components may be used to control voltage and/or current sources, switching signals or firing pulses for thyristors, GTOs or IGBTs, as well as to dynamically control the value of resistors, inductors and capacitors.  Controls components can also be used for signal analysis and outputs may be directed to on-line plots or meters.
