AC Exciters (2016)

 

Description

This component models a set of IEEE Standard 421.5-2016 AC exciter models. Models included are AC1C, AC2C, AC3C, AC4C, AC5C, AC6C, AC7C, AC8C, AC9C, AC10C and AC11C. According to the standard, AC1A, AC2A, AC3A, AC4A, AC5A, AC6A, AC7B and AC8B, introduced in the older revisions of the standard, may be replaced with the newer models (with appropriate new parameter selection, which are included in the new component).

 

The models provide a continuous DC current for the synchronous machine field winding, using closed-loop control to maintain its terminal voltage. An AC generator-called exciter supplies such current through rectifiers, brushes, and slip rings. The main theories behind this model are introduced in IEEE Standard 421.5-2016.
