Description

This component models the simple mechanical physics of a wind turbine, considering blade configuration (2 or 3 blade), tip speed ratio, coefficient of power, and blade sweep area and radius.  Shaft dynamics are not considered in this model and it may be used together with the wind governor model.  Wind speed Vw and the mechanical speed of the machine connected to the turbine W are the inputs.  Beta is the pitch angle of the turbine blades and is entered in degrees.  Tm and P are the output torque and power respectively in per-unit, based on the machine rating.

 

Two type of turbines are modelled, a 2 blade (MOD 5) and a 3 blade (MOD 2).
