Mechanical Friction and Windage

Mechanical Friction and Windage (also known as mechanical damping) is that portion of the machine rated torque, which causes drag to the spinning rotor times the rated frequency.

 

The mechanical damping constant in metric Dm is related to the mechanical damping constant in per-unit Dpu as follows:
