Machines Overview

There are presently three machine models available in the PSCAD Master Library:

The synchronous machine component can be used as either a salient-pole or a round-rotor machine by selecting the appropriate number of q-axis damper windings and entering the corresponding machine data.

There are also several other machine related models available (i.e. exciters, governors, stabilizers, turbines, etc.) to assist the user to control the operation of any of the above indicated machine models.

Simulating electrical systems with machines present requires a combination of skill and experience.  If you are just starting out with machines, we suggest that you familiarize yourself not only with these models, but the basic theory behind the modeling of rotating machines in PSCAD.  Please refer to Introduction to Machines for details on basic principles of machine modeling and theory.
