There are three types of software deployment tools, for installing the various editions of PSCAD and associated software. For detailed installation instructions, please refer to this webpage.
The InstallShield Wizard is launched from the official PSCAD Installation Package, and is the preferred method for installing the following software:
The License Manager (for lock-based licensing)
GFortran compilers
Sentinel drivers
Prerequisite software
The PSCAD Installation Package is normally downloaded through a MyCentre user account, the files are unzipped, and the installation is launched by running the setup.exe file in the main folder. This main installer can be used to install the above listed software, as well as to launch individual instances of the Installer Utility for installing products outside the scope of this Application Help, including Enerplot, PRSIM, and the Initializer.
The PSCAD Installation Package also includes sub-folders containing setup files for single-product installations. Simply drill down into the desired sub-folder, and run the corresponding setup file. Please note that there is no sub-folder for installing PSCAD alone; this software is installed only through the main folder setup file.
MyUpdater is a software deployment utility that is installed on a user’s workstation, and is used to install, uninstall, update and launch software. MyUpdater is used to deploy the PSCAD Free and Beta editions, as well as the GFortran compilers. MyUpdater is optional for the deployment of the Professional and Educational editions, with the InstallShield Wizard as the preferred method.
MyUpdater may also be used to install products outside the scope of this Application Help, including FACE, Enerplot, PRSIM, and the Initializer.
The Installer Utility is used to install individual products. This utility is available in the PSCAD Installation Package, and is used for installing Enerplot, PRSIM, and the Initializer. The Installer Utility may be launched as part of the main InstallShield Wizard installer, or each product may be installed individually by the Installer Utility by drilling down to the setup.exe file in the associated sub-directory.
The Installer Utility may also be used for installing the PSCAD Free and Beta editions. However, it is not the preferred installer for these software. The preferred installer is MyUpdater, as it provides notification when an update is available.
During the installation, a desktop shortcut is created for launching the software.
