The File Reference component is a multiple purpose device, but is used primarily as an external file viewer. The File Reference can be used in conjunction with associated files to invoke other applications directly from the PSCAD environment.
In previous PSCAD versions, the File Reference component was also used to link external source files (i.e. *.f or *.c files), so that they may be compiled along with the rest of the Project. Although this is still a functional part of the File Reference, it has been replaced with a the Resources Branch method. If you have an older case with File References being used in this way, it would be best to convert the new format to ensure compatibility in the future.
