
This component models a set of IEEE Standard 421.5-2016 AC exciter models. Models included are AC1C, AC2C, AC3C, AC4C, AC5C, AC6C, AC7C, AC8C, AC9C, AC10C and AC11C. According to the standard, AC1A, AC2A, AC3A, AC4A, AC5A, AC6A, AC7B and AC8B, introduced in the older revisions of the standard, may be replaced with the newer models (with appropriate new parameter selection, which are included in the new component).
The models provide a continuous DC current for the synchronous machine field winding, using closed-loop control to maintain its terminal voltage. An AC generator-called exciter supplies such current through rectifiers, brushes, and slip rings. The main theories behind this model are introduced in IEEE Standard 421.5-2016.
The main objectives of an excitation system based on its application are as follows:
Constant terminal voltage: Helps the synchronous generator to maintain its terminal voltage at desirable level.
Constant power factor: Helps the synchronous motor to maintain its power factor at desirable level.
Connection Port Assignments
Ef: Outputs the calculated field voltage to be applied directly to the synchronous machine in per-unit.
Vref0: Outputs the initialized value of the reference voltage (Vref) in per-unit. It is visible only if the input parameter Output Internally Computed Initial Vref? is selected as Yes.
Ef0: Imports the synchronous machine field voltage during the initialization period in per-unit.
VI/IT: Imports the synchronous machine RMS terminal voltage, real terminal current and imaginary terminal current in a 3-element array format.
Vref: Imports the desired voltage reference for the synchronous machine terminal in per-unit.
VS: Imports the generated signal by power system stabilizer in per-unit.
If: Imports the synchronous machine field current in per-unit.
