
This component represents a standard IEEE-type Power Factor and Reactive Power Controllers and Regulators (VAr/PF controllers) model. All input parameters are specified either in seconds (for time constants) or in per-unit/per-unit per second (for all other inputs). The external inputs and outputs are detailed below:
Inputs:
[VT/IT]: This input is a 3-element array and receives its data from the attached synchronous machine (provided that the machine is set to output this data). VT is the RMS terminal voltage. IT is the synchronous machine terminal current and is complex (i.e. has a real and imaginary component). The real component of IT is in phase with VT and the imaginary component of IT is in quadrature (lagging is positive) with VT.
Vref0: This input sets the nominal terminal voltage reference value for the voltage control loop.
PFref(norm): This input defines the target power factor when the controller operates in PF control mode. It is typically a per-unit (pu) value where positive values indicate lagging (underexcited) and negative values indicate leading (overexcited) power factors. The controller adjusts the excitation to maintain the specified PF relative to generator loading conditions.
Qref: This input defines the desired reactive power output of the generator when the controller is operating in Var control mode. The controller compares the measured reactive power with this reference and adjusts excitation to minimize the error, thereby achieving the target reactive power.
Outputs:
Vref: This output represents the adjusted terminal voltage reference produced by the VAr/PF controller. It typically serves as an input to the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR).
dVref: This output represents the incremental change or deviation applied to the voltage reference due to the PF or VAr control action..
